little things also deserve a celebration

“When nobody else celebrates you, learn to celebrate yourself.
When nobody else compliments you, then compliment yourself.
It’s not up to other people to keep you encouraged. It’s up to you.
Encouragement should come from the inside.”

- Jay Shetty

Hi badass,

Welcome to your safe space.

With the winter about to start, and the leaves of the trees falling, feelings of dread may creep up on some of us. Returning to the sameness of our daily lives, leaving the sunshine behind, is a challenge most of us can relate to. If you have managed to begin your old routine, make yourself a nice cup of tea, or stay in bed a little longer. We congratulate you.

In our daily lives, we spend a huge chunk of our time trying to get through our day, comparing ourselves to others, and being envious of what they have managed to achieve. We tend to overlook the little things we’ve accomplished that have helped us reach the end of the day.

Think of something you did today that you thought you wouldn’t be able to do, whether it be going outside by yourself, admitting that work has been overwhelming, or an assignment you managed to finish on time. Give yourself a smile. You, my badass friend, did it!

why should I celebrate these wins?

Let’s call these activities our small wins. Celebrating small wins can not only act as a booster for self-esteem but it also intrinsically motivates you to further pursue your bigger goals, allowing you to acknowledge the hard work you’ve managed to complete during the day.

We live in an era where the unchanging cycle of completing a task and instantly moving on to the next, only being satisfied when the day is finished, consumes us.This monotonous routine gives us no time to think about the journey we’ve just gone through.

The journey is just as crucial, if not more, than the end goal. The journey shapes us and allows us to experience small moments of satisfaction which our end goal may not necessarily make us feel.

let's think about ways to celebrate our little achievements!

1. take some time for yourself

Whether it be buying yourself flowers, curling up in bed with a book, or having a little dance alone.

It is important to celebrate YOU, and what better way to celebrate yourself than doing something that relaxes or uplifts you?

2. have a chat with someone you appreciate

Life may be much harder without our loved ones, whether they help us physically or motivate us from a distance, we can always rely on our close relationships to get us through tough times. Reach out to them.
Make some time to have a virtual or physical dinner. Call them and go on a walk, or even better go on a walk together if they live close by. This is your moment to appreciate them, celebrate each other together!

3. start a gratitude journal

Take some time this evening to write down the elements in your life that you are grateful for.
This can allow you to take a moment to cherish, and shine a light on, the positive in your life.
Scientific research shows that gratitude is associated with the brain’s reward pathways which results in an enhanced emotional well-being.

4. anything that makes YOU feel energized

The list above provides examples of what you can do to celebrate yourself, but after all, you are the real winner, and you deserve to do anything that gives you time to value yourself.

Congratulating yourself isn’t always easy, sometimes we don’t see the things that we have achieved throughout the day because we are too focused on the deadline. Taking the time to prioritize yourself by celebrating allows you to take a break from the chaos of your daily life and conquer the rest of the day with positive power.

Celebrate you - and not just on your birthday!

Have a badass day!
